Thank You Southwestern High School
A letter from an ICES Host Family to Southwestern High School located in Hazel Green, WI
Dear Mr. Sirianni,
My husband, Don, and I want to thank you and the staff and students at Southwestern High School for helping make Johannes Paetzold’s stay with us in America so rewarding. He had a wonderful experience and it would not have happened without all of you.

Openning My Heart
First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sherry Saunders and I have been a single host mom since1994. My 17th exchange student is due to arrive August 23rd, and I am just as anxious and excited as the time I picked up my first student Andre Riberio, who is now 31 years old and married.
I will tell you that my life has change drastically since the first time years ago when my sister and I saw an add in the paper asking for Host Families. My sister was really serious about getting a student, but I was more leery about bringing someone (a stranger) into our house and suppose to love them like they were our own.. I honestly didn't think I could do it. Well I did it and it was easier than I ever thought possible.

"Students Are Measured When They Arrive And When They Leave."
Since the Obama family arrived in Europe has there been an airport reception and welcoming committee like this one!! In 27 years, this is the largest airport delegation I have ever seen. It was so fun to see all of you that day.. Elissandra must have loved the weather...maybe it was warm enough for her to take off her boots? What a honey she is! I have to mention, it has become a foreign exchange tradition at my house..students are measured when they arrive and when they leave. Will she grow taller on American junk food?
