First of all, I would like to thank you for reading my letter and spending time on getting to know me better. We never met so I hope the following lines will give you an impression about me, my life in Spain and why I would like to spend a year with you.
My name is Juan, and I live in a city in Spain. My friends describe me as nice, funny, friendly, trustworthy, sportive and generous. I am an optimistic person and I always try making the most out of every situation.
I told my parents that I wanted to go to USA to study, to improve my English level, to learn the American culture and have a new family and make new experiences, and play sports.
I would like to live in a family where I become one more member. I know some things at the beginning might be a bit hard, but I am sure it’ll get better soon. I will try to talk to you as much as I can.
At the beginning of the experience, I think a difficult thing will be to follow the classes in English because of the different language and to make new friend the first weeks. I am a bit shy at the beginning but I will try to adapt to you with your help. I will follow the rules at your home and do the chores. In Spain at home, I do my bed, I set and clear the table with my brothers, I put the plates into the dishwasher and I also empty it; I usually take out the garbage.
If I do not understand something, I will ask you if you can repeat. I will try to help as much as possible. I do not know how to do the laundry but if you tell me know to do it, I will do it. I am always willing to help my family/the others.
My first experience outside home was when I went a basketball summer camp two weeks in a small city nearby when I was eleven years old; then every year I go to a 2 weeks outdoor summer camp with my school mates, to do camping and hiking and sleeping in tents. I also stayed 6 months in a boarding school in England also and I stayed 2 weeks in a Irish family during Easter Holidays. I like travelling abroad and doing new things. In March 2018, I am going to France for exchange cultural program with a French student for two weeks and I will live with his family and then he will come to go to school and live with my family.
I live with my parents and my two brothers in a flat with facilities. My father is a civil engineer. My mum works in marketing in the cycling industry. I am the oldest brother and I have two brothers. My little brother is so cute, my other brother, he is very generous. I always try to help them. My grandmas are very likely.
My school is a Catholic School. We are 1.400 students between nursery, primary and high school. I am a good student and I have a good academic record (an average of B+ and some “A”s). My favourite subjects in school are Maths, Physics and Physical Education. Besides English I also learn French at school. I am a hard worker and have to study a lot during the academic year. My teachers say that I am very kind and generous classmate. At my school I have helped children to learn to read at primary school.
My parents drive me to the school and on the afternoon I take the public bus to home or walk back 20 minutes. I belong to the basketball school team and I am practicing 3 days/week after school and on weekends we play matches with another school teams.
During the weekends, after studying I hang out with my friends on Saturday afternoon. We go to the cinema or to play basketball and videogames together. I also like to watch films or stay home or do things with my family outside.
Probably you will ask yourself why I want to be an exchange student. I think it´s a great opportunity to meet new people, getting “American way of life”, I really want to go, I’m really like to meet you. I am so thankful that you consider me. I am so excited about the stay and I hope I´ll be able to show you something about Spanish culture and food.
Thanks for hosting me and I can not wait to meet my American family.
