Thank you for taking your time reading my letter!
In the following I`d like to introduce myself and try to give you an impression of my personality to make it as easy as possible for you to decide if you would like me to become part of your family during my exchange year.
I`m a female from northern Germany. I live with my mum and dad in a small village where I grew up and went to primary school. My mother is a technician and my father is a plumber and installer. Sadly I`m not gifted in technology, but I inherited the interest for music from my grandfather who conducted a choir.
I`m currently visiting a high school near me. In school I mostly like english and german classes because we often do characterizations and interpretations of stories and I like to think about the intentions the author may have had for the characters and their actions. I like literature in general. About a year ago I started writing my own columns. But I also love the art and music classes, because I think that`s a great valve from the stressful school life. I`m thankful that my school allows me to try out new techniques in drawing and painting so I can improve my skills. In music class I mostly like to learn about the history of music and to try out new instruments.
In my school, community is very important but I`m looking forward to see what the American high school spirit feels like and to be an active part of it. I would be also very happy to try out some new subjects at the American school.
I`m not such an athletic person, but I like to go swimming with my mother every Sunday and I try to cycle to school as much as possible because it`s just 5 miles. Lately I found my passion for yoga and I do it now once a week with some of my friends. I`m not yet good at it, but I like that yoga is not about competition and more about the growing and the little improvements. Luckily we have mountains nearby so I can go whenever I like hiking, which is also a passion of mine. But I`m open for a new sport to try in America.
I like to take care of my health and of my environment that`s why I`m vegan and I try to deal with as much love and understanding as possible with the people around me. I like eating vegetables but I love cooking them as well, so I would be happy to cook a vegan german meal every now and then for you.
In my free time I like reading poetry, novels (but I don`t like fantasy or thrillers) and people`s biographies I find interesting. Lately I read the diary of Carrie Fisher during her time on the set of “Star Wars” because I`m a great Star Wars fan. On weekends I often go with my mum to concerts, that`s one of our passion. I don`t like partying or going out at all, but I really do love music and I like the feeling at a concert when you`re part of it and everyone`s there to support their favourite artist. That kind of cohesion is something that gives me goosebumps. I also got to know some of my closest friends on concerts. I mainly listen to pop, soul/ funk, jazz and alternative/indie. My favourite artists are Stefanie Heinzmann and Nena (you may know her from “99 red balloons”). My mother was a fan of Nena when she was younger so I basically grew up with her music. Also I like to travel and explore new places with my friends and I like photographing, no matter if it`s behind or in front of the camera. After school I sometimes meet my best friends in a café and we spend some time together. As you can see I`m a pretty active person, but I sometimes need to be just by myself. That`s when I take a book and go into a park, I draw or I watch series. It happens that I sometimes daydream a bit too much, but I`m good at making lists and schedules, so I can perfectly plan my day and do everything I have to do. I was a voluntary employee in a musical project with kids from 6-12 in our church community, so I can work with kids too. There I sang with them, played the guitar, supported the kids with learning their texts, sewed their costumes, cooked for them or I was just there if they needed an ear to listen.
I was raised independent and ambitious. I`m a person who is open for new experience, adaptable and inquisitive. I`m very enthusiastic, creative and active. Furthermore I`m social and apprecictive of people and their feelings. I love to help other people. I like to think not superficially but to look into things.
I am so thankful to been given the chance to live my dream and learn about all the different people and the many sides of the US. During this exchange year I`ll be able to collect so many important experiences for my future and grow in my personality as well will I improve my english immensely.
I will do my best taking part in your family and I would love to tell you something about the german culture. I will do everything so that this year will be remembered as a great year for all of us.
Thank you for reading my letter and for making this dream come true! Sending you all the best!
