LETTER FROM Nawel

Nawel

Hello, my name’s Nawel. I have a little brother. My mom is a nurse and my dad works in an airport. They are divorced but I get along with both of them. My grandparents from my dad are Moroccan and they speak Arabic but I never learnt it so it’s a bit difficult to communicate with them. I have a lots of cousins that I see often and who are like my friends. My grandfather from my mom is beekeeper and has 10 hives with which he makes delicious honey. My uncle works in a nuclear central and is a biker, he has two Harley Davidson.

I was a very good student when I was younger but I admit that I’m not as good as before and I have difficulties in some subjects, but I still manage to pass all my exams without problems. My favorites subjects are English, Dutch and Spanish because I love learning languages. I also like science even though I’m not that good at it, I find it interesting and important. The only subject that I don’t like is mathematics.

At school I get along with more or less everyone but I only have a few real friends. I’m a discreet student, I don’t really like being noticed by the teacher so I don’t make noise in class.

I usually study at least an hour per day if I haven’t already done it during my free time at school. I try to help my mom with the housework, I wash the dishes, I tidy my room, I iron and even though I can’t cook, I still help her.

I don’t have any student job yet but I hope that I’ll be able to find one during the holidays so I can finance my trip.

My hobbies are drawing and painting since I’m a kid, I’ve always been interested in art. Every time I have nothing to do, I draw while listening to music because it’s a good way for me to decompress.

I really like listening to music, it’s something very important to me, I never go out without my earphones. I also really enjoy attending to concerts with my mom or my friends every time I can since Belgium is a small country and there’s not that much concerts here.

I love travelling and I’d like to visit as many countries as I can. Since a few years with my mom and my brother, we usually go on a trip for a weekend in a European city.

I chose the United States as my destination because it’s a country that I wanted to visit and I probably won’t have any other opportunity like this one. I find this country interesting, I always see it at the television, on internet, everywhere so I wanted to discover it by myself.

I think that having a foreign student for a long time can be beneficial for both the student and the host family. It can be a good way to be exposed to another culture and it can expand our thoughts thanks to the different points of view. I’d love to represent and show the Belgian culture and habits to my host family and to everyone who is interested.

I think that this experience will help me to be more independent and since I still don’t know what I’m going to do as a job later, I hope it will help me to find my path.

I can adapt myself easily because I’ve been a member of a youth movement for a few years and I’ve been to some countries that are different form Belgium like Senegal, Morocco, Norway…

I wrote this letter without the help of an English teacher so you can already see my level of English and I apologize for the mistakes I’ve made.

I hope that everything will be fine and that you weren’t bored because of my letter 🙂 Thank you for your hospitality and goodbye!
