LETTER FROM Álvaro

Álvaro

My name is Álvaro, I’m 15 years old (I will be 16 when I arrive) and I’m from Spain. I live in a city in the northeast of Spain. I live there with my mother, who is a lawyer, my father, who is a businessman, and my sister Lucía,. I love my family and we love doing things together, on the weekends or on holidays, we always find things to do like playing sport, traveling, or going to the movies. I have five cousins who live in Barcelona, so I don’t see them as often as I would like, but when I see them, I play and talk a lot with them, they are younger than me.

My hobbies are swimming, playing basketball and soccer, but I prefer basketball. I’ve been playing basketball for two years and I’m starting my third year, I love it! It’s a big part of my life and I’d like to see an NBA basketball game, I think it would be amazing to go. I started playing soccer when I was nine years old, but I stopped playing because I preferred basketball, but I still like it. In winter I like to ski with my family, and I also like to go to the beach. I also like reading and hanging out with friends.

After classes, on Mondays I go home, study and do my homework (I do my homework and study every day, but this is the day I spend the most time doing this), it’s the most boring day but I have to do it. On Thursdays, after school, I go to classes at an English academy. I go with two of my closest friends, so it’s fun and the teacher is very kind, he’s from England. The rest of the days I have basketball practice and playing games, I like my team because my teammates are also my closest friends, and we have a great time together.

I’ve been to the U.S. twice, once when I was little to San Diego, and again at Flat Rock River, YMCA Camp, Indiana. I loved it! I made great friends and I would have liked to stay longer. That’s why I’d like to spend a school year meeting new people and getting to know more of the U.S and its culture.

I really hope to have the opportunity to take part in this exchange program because I feel I can really learn more things about myself, improve my English level and make lifelong friends.
