Dear future host family,

I am very excited about this opportunity. My name is Clara, I am a currently sixteen years old student from Germany and I am really grateful to get the possibility to spend an entire school year in the USA.

I am interested in philosophy, literature and politics as well as science and history and always open to learn new things. At home in Germany I often spend my time reading, playing the guitar, hanging out with friends or going horse riding. During the holidays I love to travel with my family and getting to know the culture and nature of new places and countries.

Because I have always loved animals and later also enjoyed biology and chemistry in general I am presently going to a secondary school with a focus on mathematics and science, but I also very much enjoy learning (new) languages and hope to be able to improve my English in the USA and as someone who was raised bilingual maybe also my Spanish.

One of the things I am looking forward to the most is the variety of subjects and extracurricular activities in the USA, for example I would really like to join a debate club or a choir and go to classes like creative writing or American history. Another aspect that made me want to go to the USA is the art taking place or being made by artists in the USA, including some of my favorite music (Taylor Swift), series (“Never have I ever”, “The queens gambit”, “Gilmore girls”) and books (“Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe”, “The Goldfinch”).

Another aspect I find really interesting about the USA is the variety of social and cultural backgrounds there. I would love to learn more about the every day life of different people and the things that matter to them. As someone who always cared a lot about equality and justice I would also like to learn more about the legal system and politics in the USA.

Also I think that the USA has to offer a lot of beautiful nature, including canyons, beaches and national parks which I find very interesting and fascinating.

Last but not least of course I am looking forward to meeting interesting, wonderful people and making new friends and being part of your life. I would love to learn about it, celebrate (traditional) holidays with you, go to sport games or cook together or do whatever else brings you joy.
