LETTER FROM Greta

Greta

Dear host family,

My name is Greta, I’m 15 years old and I’m grateful to tell you a few things about me.

I would like to tell you about my family and my hobbies.

I have a sister, she’s ten years older than me. She’s a student and doesn’t live at home anymore. Nevertheless we have a very strong connection, we can tell each other everything and are always there for each other. Than there’s my older brother who is 22 years old. He also does not live at home anymore but I can always rely on him.

My stepdad is an elementary school teacher. We’re super good with each other and forgive each other everything, we have a very deep and easy-going connection. My mom is also an elementary school teacher. I’m grateful to have her, I can tell her everything about my feelings, emotions or about any that bothers me. We can talk seriously but can also make jokes or something like that. My parents have separated when I was about 9 years old. Back then, I was at my father’s home every second weekend. Which I’m very thankful for because I had a very strong connection to my father. Sadly he passed away in 2020, when I was 11 years old. It was a hard time for me and my family, but I also learned so much from this and I have grown because of it.

Now a few information about me: I live in a town in northern Germany. The city is interesting because it is the city of peace. It is nice to grow up here, but I’m very excited to see more of the big, big world! I hope to live in cologne in the future because I love the vibe of a big city. But I also love travelling, so I’m happy to spend a whole year in the US.

I would describe myself as organized, creative, smart, adventurous and ambitious.

I love meeting my friends and going out with them. Especially with my best friend, she’s always there for me and supports me and helps me with America. I go to a dance training twice a week, where I have been dancing for almost 10 years now. It’s like cheerleading, so I would like to do cheerleading in America. Weekly I meet up with a group of teenagers. We all go camping every year. I also love to make short videos to a song and it makes me happy to watch them. This is called editing. On weekends, I sometimes work at a hotel. I also enjoy it very much and I get to earn some pocket money.

I am pretty good at school and I’m also selected to represent my class. I go to the ninth grade and visit the secondary school. I have fun to go to school, to learn new stuff and meet my friends.

I think I’ve had the dream of going to America since I was 8 years old.
I have always been interested in America, which is why I quickly told my family and they could support me so much and want to make my dream come true. I’m very excited to live with a host family for the time. I hope that we have a great time with game nights, movie nights or at dinner time – for example I love to cook for people.

Apart from family, I hope to meet many new friends which I can spend time with, introduce them to you and are easy for me to meet. I would love to be able to take a bus or ride a bicycle to my friends houses, like I do in Germany. I can’t wait to keep the friendships and relationships with you even when I’m back in Germany so I can meet you many times after my high school year. And if you want you can also come to my hometown so I can show you the German way of living and our culture, too.

I hope you got a good and helpful impression of me and I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for reading this.

Greta
