Hi, my name is Luis. I’m 16 years old. I am very open and social. I love to talk, and I am well-known as a huger. Meaning that I take care of all my friends, and loved ones. But at the same time, I’m not the most organized person in the world, of course I’m not a mess but still…
I also love taking pictures. I’m a well-known portrait photographer on Instagram. I take pictures of well-known models and friends. It’s my current hobby. I also like cars. But not rally!!! I’m blown away by high end cars. Everything about them, well…not the prices.
I live on an island were the summers are very hot (up to 90ºF) and winters are not that cold. Only this year was kind of cold. Some mountains were covered with snow. And our mountains are not that tall. My family and I enjoyed this moment to go there and see our island in a different view.
I am very lucky having the family I have. My mother is one of the most important person of my life, she has the best job you can have, I mean traveling around the world free and getting payed. But still a flight attendant’s job is very hard. Because I don’t see her as often. Then there is my Dad. He is one of the most intelligent person I have ever known. He is very wise and loving, he manages properties and takes care of our house while my mom is working. And he is also studying. Now my brother, he is awesome. I have a very good relationship with him. We share our interests and hobbies, such as Photography and Entrepreneuring. We are inseparable.
I’m in 10th grade. My favorite subjects are English & Economy. My school’s educating method is called Holistic. It’s based on educating a kid as a person and not as an academic object. But I have only been in this alternative school for a year, before that I was studying in a regular private school. My circle of friends is really versatile, almost everyone is different. Some are dancers, skaters, some are artists….Usually when I go out with my friends, we go for a meal and a nice walk. But in summer when there is no school we have beach parties like going with some friends to a nice beach and chill for the day, we also go to each others houses for the night. I’m not a party guy but I appreciate sincere conversations and games (not digital) when I stay there.
I want to do this academic year in the US because I am eager to learn about new cultures and also exchange mine. I always wanted to go there not only to improve my English but make a long-lasting relationship with many of you. I have visited the US multiple times, such as New York City, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Alabama, Miami, Orlando, Los Angeles & Puerto Rico. These were very short pleasure trips which I enjoyed a lot. But what I really want is to have the full American experience. One other reason I want to go there is because here where I live, there isn’t a lot of sport motivation and I stopped doing sports like inline hockey or basketball because I wasn’t motivated enough, and what I have been learning from America is that there is a great importance in sports and I think I will be very happy taking part of a team sport. I want to share my culture as much as my host family wishes.
I have lived in Germany for three years but I don’t really remember everything, because they were my first 3 years of my life. I’ve also gone to Alabama for a month in a summer camp. The experience was extraordinary and beautiful. We did activities like dirt biking, climbing, outdoor “survival”, and much more. I made really good friends there.
House chores aren’t my strength but I don’t mind doing them. I usually help around the house. Like picking up the table, dishes, vacuum cleaning… I am a little overweight but I eat pretty healthy. We eat together almost every day. Sometimes my parents aren’t home and I have to cook for myself. I can cook simple things like a burger, cooking meat, pasta and other things.
On Christmas we have three to five days of family reunions were we have a nice big meal and presents opening. Christmas here in Spain are pretty familiar. On summers, we usually go on a family vacation outside Spain. One that I really liked was Santo Domingo. I had a great experience going from island to island on a catamaran, drinking fresh coconut water and eating their local fish. That was my favorite trip of all.
Something I’m scared about going to the US are my friends and family. I think I’m going to miss them a lot. I have a really good relationship with them. But I’m sure it will go away the first few days.
I am very grateful in advance for the family inviting me in their sweet home and giving me the chance to fulfill my dream.
