Hi dear Host Family,
I’m Maria, a fourteen-year-old girl who lives five thousand miles away from you, in a large city in Spain, and I’m currently in third of ESO which would be ninth grade there. My friends describe me as an authentic, funny, friendly and empathic person, but as for myself, I am kind, generous and caring. I think one of my biggest strengths is the fact that I’m attentive when it comes to understanding people, figuring things out or when I have to complete a task. However, one of my weaknesses is that when I focus on something, it’s hard for me to leave it unattended until I feel like it’s perfect, and this can sometimes be good or bad.
I live with my parents in our family home, and I don’t have any siblings. As a matter of fact, I never got the chance to own a pet because we live in a small apartment (as you know, apartments in Europe are tiny), which means it won’t have enough space to live in. However, I would be so happy in a house with pets. My grandparents live near the mountain, and often visit them on the weekends. Every time we go there, we have fun going hiking, swimming, trekking and doing things that you can’t do in a city like Barcelona.
Volleyball is my strongest passion above all the others. This is my fourth year playing and I couldn’t enjoy any sport as much. I also believe that it’s a great activity where you can meet other people and make friends, so that might be a part of why I love it so much. On the other hand, I really enjoy spending time with my family, such as going outdoors, baking, cooking with my mother, who cooks fantastic, visiting museums, going to the beach, and many more. However, my favorite thing to do with them has always been traveling. My parents and I have visited many places like Turkey, Italy, France, Germany, and a bunch of other countries. As for things I like to do on my own, reading novels is one of my favorite things to do, as well as playing some video games or watching new series.
I like to eat any type of food, but if I had to choose one of my favorites, those would be sushi and pasta. Nowadays, my favorite subjects at school are history, English, German, science, Spanish and technology. Subjects like physics or math have always been harder for me, which is why those aren’t my favorite ones. Lastly, one of my favorite things in the world is art, but more specifically, architecture. This is because my parents always took me to different places and buildings where the structure and its decoration was somehow special and different, and thanks to that, I want to become an architect.
Lastly, I think this experience is a great opportunity to make myself more independent when I have to figure things out on my own in the future, as an adult. Furthermore, I like the idea of getting to know different cultures around the world because then I can help people easier and understand them a lot more. Besides, this year will help me with my career or degrees I might face in the future. To sum up, I’m grateful that I have the chance to study in another country because I have dreamed of it ever since I was eight years old. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
Best regards,
Maria
