Dear future host family,
I will be very glad to meet you soon. My name is Pia. I am from planet earth. I was born in Germany 15 years ago (in February I will turn 16). I live there with my earthlings family: mum, dad and my older brother Julian. He is 20 years old. We have a tiny brown dog named Pinda – she’s just one year old and so adorable. I love spending time with her. We live in a rural area near Muenster, in our own house from the 1960s. We have a family car and another little one, both made in South Korea. My mom is native German and is a freelancer and she loves doing creative activities. My dad is originally from Turkey and works in an adult education center as a manager. My brother is currently a student at the police academy in our neighbor state. He has always been like a role model for me – when he was my age, he also did an exchange year in the US (West Virginia) and since then, it has been my dream to do one too.
More about me: I’m in 10th grade in school and I have been learning English since my first year. My favorite subjects are English, Art Class and P.E. because I have many different interests. I like learning languages but also drawing and doing some sport activities. I can never decide. My main hobby is soccer, which I have played it my whole life besides a bunch of other sports I already tried. But in the end, I always chose soccer. Soccer and sports at all are of great importance in my life. Practice and matches are scheduled every week. I’m looking forward to participating in all kinds of US-sports such as high school softball and track and field. I am also really excited about the American food, and I love vegetarian dishes like mac’n cheese and pancakes. At the weekend, I am meeting my friends on Friday or Saturday evening at gatherings or to watch soccer together and to hang out. We always have a blast!
I must admit, my bedroom isn’t always cleaned up like in the pictures. I can be kind of messy sometimes, but I always try my best to clean it up as fast as possible. Besides my room, I am really organized and clean. Most of my friends never believe me that my room is messy because everywhere else I go, I always clean up everything – I could never leave any trash behind. The environment and animal rights are very important topics to me. In my room are lots of plushies on my shelfs, on my bed, on my chair or on my couch – you can find them everywhere. I also have a big panda collection, of figures, plushies or anything that has a panda on it. They are just my favorite animals. In my free time when I am not with my friends, I am watching some Netflix with my brother or my parents. I also enjoy reading a good book and listening to music. Furthermore, I enjoy exploring the world and travelling with my family. I have already been to 24 countries, including the US. I was once in West Virginia with my brother to visit his former host family. I cannot wait to see more of the US. One day, I want to have explored the whole world.
To describe my character, I would say I am open-minded and have a lot of different interests. At first, I can be very shy but once I feel comfortable, I can be a really open and quite outgoing person. I love planning the next weekend activities, but I can also be spontaneous and fun with my friends. At home, in the household I think I am not doing as much as I could, but I promise to try my best in the US. I am interested in getting to know the world and I am really looking forward to getting to know the American way of life and what is different to Germany. I am excited to experience the American daily routine of a student in high school, to experience the notorious high school spirit, the American traditions and celebrations and I want to gain a lot of life experience there. No matter where I will be settled, I am so excited to see the people, culture, large cities and nature. Thank you very much in advance for thinking about hosting me and reading my application – I really appreciate your willingness to make exchange possible!
