LETTER FROM Tobias

Tobias

My name is Tobias. I’m 16 years old. I’m happy and forward as a person, almost always with a smile on my face. My family consists of my father and my mother, my older brother Hampus who is one year older than me and my younger sister Linnea who is 12.

I really like hanging with my friends, watching movies, scuba diving and downhill skiing. I have been skiing as long as I can remember since northern Sweden is like the northern parts of the US with lots of snow. This year the entire family is heading down to the Italian alps to ski.

This summer I went to a Navy Youth summer camp and now I’m trying to get my boat navigation certificate in the fall and spring through the Navy. I’m also planning to attend the same youth camp next summer to learn more about sailing. I also like being out with the family’s small motorboat.

I’m currently in the first year of the Swedish Gymnasium, which is equivalent to America’s Sophomore year of High School. We have focus studies in the Gymnasium where my major is Technology with focus on Information and Media, or simply Computer Science. I’m studying this because I think programming is a lot of fun, not only in itself, but also learning more about it.

The reason why I would like to spend one year as an exchange student is because of the stories I have heard from my father how it was for him and his two brothers while they were studying in the US as exchange students. I have heard numerous times how their individual journeys became an experience for all three of them. Tough in the beginning however extremely rewarding in the end for all of them. One other reason for me wishing to go abroad is that our family hosted an exchange student three years ago for one semester during her university studies. Awesome experience for all of us and she is still a very close and valuable family member.

I’m really looking forward to spend a year in the US and experience the wonders of the US culture and High School. I’m also extremely thrilled to meet my new US family.
