Dear future host family,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for considering me as your exchange student and for welcoming me into your home for 10 months. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, and I know that it is a big responsibility, especially since you don’t know much about me yet. That is what I would like to change with this letter.
My name is Lilly, I’m 16 years old and I am from a small town in Germany. I live with my parents and enjoy playing board games with them. In summer, we often go on bike trips with my uncle and grandma. I don’t have any siblings or pets, although I’ve always wanted a dog. At home, I help with chores like doing the dishes daily and vacuuming the house once a week. My friends and family would probably describe me as a funny, kind and reliable person. I love to try new things and make people laugh.
At school I am in grade 11 and my favorite subjects are English and Art. After school I am planning to become a police officer. I had an Internship at a police station a year ago to learn about the job. It was really interesting and I knew that I want to do once I finish school. In my free time I love dancing, drawing and reading. Dancing has been a big part of my life since I was 3. I always enjoyed being on stage and dancing with my friends. I recently quit my dance team to find something new, but I still like doing it at home. What I love to do the most, is spending time with my friends. We often go out, talk for hours or try new things together.
I want to do an exchange year, because it is a unique opportunity to get to know a new culture. I would have the chance to make new friends, meet new people and improve my English. I believe this experience will change me in many ways, helping me to become a more independent and confident person. I am very curious to experience everyday life in another country and discover new things. It’s not that I don’t like my life here in Germany, I will miss my family and friends for sure. But I know that this experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and will help me grow in many ways. I would love to learn more about the USA and share a bit of my own culture with you.
Lastly, I would like to say again that I really appreciate you considering me as your exchange student and I hope that these 10 months will be special for all of us.
