Dear Host Family,
My name is Lucas, I am 16 years old, and I am of Japanese descent — my father is Japanese. I was born and raised in a small town, where I still live to this day. My town has a population of about 50,000 people. I enjoy living here because it’s a small tourist town, known for its natural beauty and beautiful mountains. People are friendly, and most of my family and friends live here.
In 2012, I started attending a small school in my town, where I completed elementary school. In 2024, I started high school in a larger city, which is 30 km away from my hometown, where I met new friends. My favorite subjects are Math and Physical Education! I find it easy to work with numbers and have always gotten good grades.
I love sports, and my favorite is soccer. I’ve played on several teams and participated in many tournaments. I almost became a professional player, but now I’m part of my town’s futsal team. We train three times a week and compete in various championships. I also work out every day. I’m a fan of Corinthians, and one of my favorite things is going to the stadium with my dad to watch their matches. I hardly ever miss a game — either watching on TV or going to the stadium.
I take pride in my appearance, like keeping my hair neat and staying clean.
On weekends, I usually spend time with my family, when we can enjoy doing different activities together. People really like me because they find me funny and polite!
Once a month, when my dad has a day off, we usually go to the coast because we love to travel! Some weekends I also stay in a city, where my friends and I get together to play sports, talk, or have a barbecue! I really enjoy eating meat.
In my free time, I also like listening to music and playing video games.
I live with my parents: my dad, 46 years old, who owns a supermarket together with his parents and two brothers — he is the main provider for our family. My mom is 42 and used to work as a lawyer, but she stopped practicing two years ago. Now she helps my dad and takes care of our home and family. I have a younger sister, Manuela, who is 10 years old and studies. She is very sweet, studies English, and takes music lessons — she plays the trumpet and keyboard.
Oh! We are a Catholic family and usually attend church on Saturday nights. I truly believe in God and that He has allowed me to experience many good things in life so far.
My parents are very friendly and understanding, but they are strict when it comes to education and good manners. Because of that, I’ve grown up to be responsible and polite.
When I was 5 years old, I started taking English classes, thanks to my parents’ initiative, and I still study it today. I really enjoy and admire American culture and believe that speaking English will open up many opportunities for me.
My family is very supportive of my trip to the U.S., as they know how important this experience will be for my life. It’s wonderful to have the chance to live in another country, which is why I decided to spend part of my high school years in the U.S. This way, I can grow as an independent person, improve my English, and learn more about your amazing culture! I hope we can share many great experiences — and maybe I’ll even have the opportunity to attend college in your country!
I’m really excited and looking forward to hearing from you so I can make my dream come true. I’m very grateful if you can welcome me into your home!
I want to discover new places and experience a different way of life with your family, who will become part of my life and be unforgettable! I’m sure we’ll have many great ideas and experiences to share!
Thank you so much!
