Dear future host family, I hope you’re doing well!
First of all, I want to thank you for making my dream come true. It’s very impressive that you are giving a young person a chance like this!
My name is Tiada, I’m 16 years old, and I live in Germany in a small but old city (over 1000 years old) with an impressive cathedral in the center. I live there in a house with my parents and my two siblings. My mother is a labor law judge, and my father is a lawyer in agricultural law. Lasse (17 years old) is my older brother, and my 12 year old sister is named Wencke. She’s a passionate cheerleader and Lasse also practices a lot of sports like football and going to the gym. My family and I have a good relationship. They are very supportive of my projects, like my exchange year. I love spending time with them. We enjoy going on walks and trips or visiting other members of our family. I have two rabbits called Barney and Flecki. They are 6 years old and live in our garden. I take care of them and sometimes even teach them tricks. Other than taking care of my pets, I have more duties. I tidy up my room, and whenever I cook or bake something in the kitchen, I clean up in there as well, and load the dishwasher.
According to my family and friends, I am a reliable, honest, confident, and humorous person. I get along with almost everyone, but my circle of really close friends is quite small. Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do, especially to music from Lana del Rey. She’s my favorite singer. I also really like music from the 2000s and 80s. Since I love cooking and baking, I tried a lot of different recipes from different cultures. My favorites are pasta, pumpkin soup, lasagna and raspberry cake. I also love spaghetti bolognese made by my mom. Of my hobbies, I love horseback riding the most. Aside from that, I like to jog and sometimes work out. In the rest of my free time I meet up with my best friends. We love to have sleepovers, go shopping, and have movie nights. The Vampire Diaries, 10 Things I Hate About You and Mean Girls are my favorite ones to watch. My favorite holidays were this fall in France as Paris has a fascinating history spread all over the city.
I’m currently in the 10th grade, and my favorite subjects are PE, biology, art and of course English. I think the school system in Germany is a lot different than your school system, so I’m very excited to experience yours. I’ve had the idea to do an exchange year for a long time because I was always interested in getting to know another culture. I decided to apply to an exchange year in America as the American way of life and the differences in it always fascinated me. For example, there are big cities like New York but also regions where way fewer people live. During my time in the US, I hope to find great friends and an amazing host family to whom I’d love to stay connected with, after the exchange year ;). But most importantly, I love to meet new people and get to experience America completely different than being there on holidays. Aside from that, I also want to improve my English.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you!
