Dear future host family,

Firstly, I want to say thank you that you are considering me as a potential part of your family for about 10 months. Obviously, I don’t know anything about you yet, but I’m already very excited to meet you soon.

Until we meet each other in person, I would like to tell you something about me, my family, my hobbies and why I have chosen the USA. My name is Jemma but my family calls me Jemmi. I’m 16 years old and I live in a small City in Germany. My parents are divorced so I live with my mom Selina, my stepdad Lars and my little brother Connor and our Guinea pig Nairobi and our hamster Nala. My dad David lives a 4 hour drive away from me but that’s not a problem because we see each other at least once a month.

I would describe myself as nice, open, determined, reliable but also very adventurous and funny. At home we have normal household chores like cleaning our room, unloading the dishwasher or setting the table. I think if the family is doing things like that together, it actually can be a lot of fun. Currently, I’m in the 9th grade of a Gymnasium and when I’m with you I’ll already be in the 11th grade. My favorite subjects are German, English and politics.

I’m already very excited how school is in USA and which subjects I’m going to be able to choose. I really like music so I’ve taken guitar lessons for six years. At home I love to cook with friends or do something creative with them or play with my little brother. I also enjoy watching TV shows with my family or playing board games together. Family time is very important to me. Moreover, I like going shopping or just relax with my friends. As a sport I love to play tennis which I’ve been playing for one year and I love it so much. I also like being outside and trying new things like climbing or surfing or swimming.

Hopefully, as part of your family I can experience some typical US traditions like Thanksgiving or Halloween. I’m interested to learn a lot of things about your culture and I will improve my English. I’m also interested in making new friends and trying out new things, for example a new hobby. I’m very excited to meet you soon!
