Dear Host Family,
my name is Anna, and I’m sixteen years old. During my exchange I will turn seventeen, and I would like to introduce myself so you can get to know me better.
I come from a small city in the Czech Republic, where I live with my family. We are very close and spend a lot of time together. We enjoy going on walks almost every day, playing board games on weekends, and watching our favorite shows on TV. I am an only child, but I have always wished for a sibling. We also have a small dog, and I love taking care of him and playing with him. Moments with my family are very special to me.
I would describe myself as funny, sporty, and outgoing. Around new people I can be a little shy at first, but once I feel comfortable, I never stop talking! Sports are a huge part of my life, and I honestly can’t imagine a day without being active. When I’m not playing sports, I enjoy spending time with my friends. One of my weaknesses is that I sometimes put on a brave face even when I don’t feel completely okay inside. On the other hand, one of my strengths is that I am always there to help others, and I believe I am emotionally intelligent.
As I mentioned, sports are very important to me. I play beach volleyball and go to the gym regularly. I’ve been playing beach volleyball for about four years now, and I would say I’m pretty good at it. Volleyball brings so much joy to my life. When I have to miss a practice, I feel like something is missing. If someone asked me, “Who was your first love?” I think my honest answer would be volleyball. I was raised to always stay active, and I am open to trying new sports and activities. Besides sports, I also enjoy cooking and baking. Over the past year I have been learning to cook new recipes. I may not cook like a Michelin-star chef yet, but I’ve made a lot of progress. Whenever someone I love has a birthday, I always bake something for them—cupcakes, muffins, brownies, or cookies.
Through this exchange, I hope to learn more about American culture, improve my English and my accent, and grow as a person. I believe this experience will give me memories that will last forever and will also help me in my future career. I would love to join family activities such as movie nights, shopping trips, or trying new restaurants together. It would also be amazing to share and try authentic dishes from both of our cultures.
I am open to any type of family and home. I understand that every family has their own routines and traditions, and I am looking forward to becoming a part of your daily life and learning from you.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I look forward to meeting you and sharing this experience together.
Sincerely,
Anna.
