LETTER FROM Amirbek from Uzbekistan

Amirbek from Uzbekistan

Dear future host family, I am writing to you with great excitement and anticipation as I prepare to embark on a new experience in your country. I have a pretty big family, which consists of my parents, grandparents, three younger siblings, and two dogs. We have a good relationship and spend almost all the time together. Sometimes I argue with my three younger sisters, but ultimately there have never been any massive confrontations with any member of my family. We often go to the mountains and have family meals together. The family bond is highly valued in my country’s culture, and it is considered the cornerstone of our society.

Throughout my life I have been a mostly quiet person, talking only when I felt a need to. Nevertheless, in the last couple of years, I have been exposing myself to all kinds of different opportunities and become more outgoing. However, I am still serious almost all of the time, very dedicated, and strict with myself. Perhaps my biggest weakness is a rare occurrence of procrastination.

I always had the same favorite activities and hobbies with some slight adjustments. In a way, most of my interests are connected to soccer. In my early childhood, I used to play it in real life and then it changed to playing it online. I still have a big interest in it, playing and watching it occasionally. Also, I enjoy volunteering and helping people, participating in many events, if I have a chance to. Other big interests of mine are video games and animation. My tastes in food are not too specific, but my favorite is East Asian cuisine. Talking about my favorite holidays, they are my birthday and New Year’s, which I believe is the same for a lot of people.

Turning to what I hope to gain from this experience, first of all, I am planning on improving my English level as well as broadening my horizons in all the other fields. Secondly, because this is an exchange program I expect to swap my culture, ideas, and traditions with all the other students. I am interested in American culture and as a student from Uzbekistan, I want to study with them and participate in many extracurricular activities. I noticed that in Uzbekistan volunteering is not as advanced as in America and I want to change that by implementing American volunteering systems in Uzbekistan. In exchange, I can share my culture and traditions with other students, so they would get to know Uzbekistan.
