LETTER FROM Eva

Eva

Dear host family

Thanks for considering hosting me, I really appreciate it.

My name is Eva and I’m 15 years old (I’ll turn 16 in 2024). I’m from Denmark and live in the suburbs nearby Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, with my mom and dad and our cute cat.

I come from a traditional Danish family and I’m an only child with a great bond with my parents. When I was 11, we had for the first time an American student living with us, which was really cozy. Right now, we have our third American student Gem, who is also really nice and she is going to my school and talking about US, that is so cool of her.

Since the 7th grade, I have gone to private school only ½ mile from my home, so I walk to school. In the area of Copenhagen, it is normal to start in a public school and then in the last years of primary school to switch to a private school, which my parents chose for me to do as well. However, I still have good friends from my old school, whom I meet in my free time.

My major interest are cheerleading. I started cheerleading around 2 years ago and I have loved it ever since. I am back spotter and go on a level 3 junior team, and in 2024 it will become level 4.

In my free time I also like hanging out with my friends, we go to the cinema, shopping in the mall nearby, and just hanging out together. I have a wide range of interests and I am always open to new experiences, large as small. Some years ago, my parents thought I should learn to ski, I thought why not, and that was so fun, after I got the hang of it. I believe in open-minded, because that will give your personal growth and fun.

Furthermore, I love exploring new places. My parents have shown me various parts of Denmark and taken me on vacations to some European countries. And once, during a summer vacation, we visited the West Coast in US. It was an amazing experience for me.

I’m a bit of a quiet girl, but want to become more outgoing, which I’m working on. This year I gave speeches at two big parties, for which I was praised and I am also proud of myself for standing up and giving the speeches. Although I am a little shy, I love performing at cheerleading competitions.

I like to be around people and I get along with most people and never become unfriended with anybody, and I can small talk to strangers, but I like them to make the first move.

I’m really looking forward to become part of your family’s everyday life, to learn about your traditions and culture at your home, trying a different school system, going to leisure activities and getting new friends and also become completely fluent in English.

I am sure this exchange will evolve me, gather many memories and life experiences and I will gain a deep respect for USA. I hope I also will give you joy and if you find it interesting, I would like to tell you about Denmark and our traditions and what impressions my American students have regarding Denmark.

I can’t wait to meet you all, I feel very lucky if this exchange can happen.

Best regards

Eva
