Dear Host Family,
Thank you so much for kindly accepting to participate in the exchange program and welcoming me to stay with your family.
I am a German boy and have just finished 10th grade. I love exploring places I haven’t been to, including America. I’m excited to learn more about the American culture and tradition.
I’m in love with American hip-hop and rap. I’m a very open minded, talkative, creative, caring and fun-loving person. I enjoy playing video games, going out with friends, playing soccer and I also love skiing. Besides speaking English and German I also speak Dutch and I also understand Latin. But since Latin is considered as “the dead language” I wouldn’t say I speak it, but I’m able to translate Latin texts back and forth. I’m also a person my friends can always talk to when they have a problem, I’m not the kind of person who would judge or even make fun of you.
I am a swimmer since I was 3 years old, a few years ago I even took part in competitions both in open water and in public swimming pools but after a long break from swimming I left our team and since then I’m a lifeguard at our local lake working for the DLRG which stands for “German lifeguard corporation” or in German “Deutsche Lebens Rettungs Gesellschaft” and I think this is definitely an interest I would like to go after in the USA.
I’m also a great cook and I enjoy both cooking and baking, although my favorite part of cooking is eating the food afterwards. I’d love to try typical American foods and I’m happy to bring some German food recipes with me if you like. I also would like to show you how we celebrate different festivals in Germany and what the major difference there is between both cultures for example how we celebrate Halloween, Christmas or New Years Eve. I’m also happy to share knowledge of small differences between our culture.
So far my only experience with traveling alone was school trips that lasted about a week, day trips to the next larger city which is Düsseldorf or a two week trip with my grandparents to the alps. I’m definitely not someone who gets homesick easily, but I might miss my friends, family and probably my dog.
I’m super excited to meet y’all and hope that I will make some great memories.
