Description

Founded in 1998, Indian River Charter High School enrolls 700 students in grades 9 through 12. Situated next to Indian River State College Mueller Campus, students are encouraged to participate in dual enrollment. Currently, IRCHS is the highest rated high school in Indian River County and has been the for the past 19 years. Students accept a great deal of responsibility within the school environment, from the open campus, to Homebase expectations, and participation in community projects such as; cultural events, government meetings, and volunteer activities. Each student is expected to follow a 7 point behavior contract in order to remain a student at IRCHS. IRCHS participates in random drug testing for all students, staff, and board members.

IRCHS offers four levels of classes designed to challenge students: Regular, Honors, Dual Enrollment (DE), and Advanced Placement (AP). Most students are encouraged to enroll in at least one or two dual enrollment classes at Indian River State College (IRSC)

This curriculum focuses on developing skills, etiquette, and improved understanding of golf history and the golf industry. Expectations for golf course behavior are high and instruction is thorough. The program’s partnership with Vista Plantation & Point West, Vero Beach, gives students access to a nine acre practice facility, including a unique short game area, putting greens, bunkers and expansive grass teeing areas.

This program provides students with a learning environment conducive to excelling in the fine arts. Five artistic disciplines are offered: dance, theatre, music-vocal, music- instrumental, and visual arts. Each course of study exceeds the basic Florida High School graduation requirements. Students must take the required foundational, historical, and theoretical classes germane to their specific disciplines. Many students participating in VAPA go on to pursue arts at the college level all across the United States.
