LETTER FROM Ida

Ida

Hello!

I’m Ida and I live in a large city in Finland. I moved there a while ago to live alone because my school is here and my family lives in a different city.

My family consists of my mother, father and two older brothers. We rarely spend time together because my brothers also live in different city than the rest of my family but with my family we like to cook together and watch movies and go travelling.

My favourite foods are tortillas, hamburgers, butter chicken and Italian food. My absolute favorite holiday is Christmas I LOVE Christmas. and of course my favorite tradition is our Christmas traditions at home when we eat Christmas porridge together in the morning, we visit the cemetery, open presents and eat Christmas dinner, As well as Finnish Independence Day when we get together with the family for dinner and watch the President’s castle celebrations.

With my family I like to spend time playing board games, watching films, going on trips and going to live concerts.

My personality is very determined, positive and kind-hearted and I try to please everyone. I have also been told that I am very happy. My weakness is that I am not a very patient person.

I play floorball in the internal league. I have been playing floorball for more than 10 years. In my free time I spend a lot of time with my friends. We go driving around the city on mopeds and I also like shopping and going out for dinner with my friends. I go to the gym sometimes when i have time. I love travelling and exploring new things. I have been to Switzerland, France, Belgium, Norway, Estonia and many times to Sweden and Spain.

My favourite subject is probably biology bc I have always been interested in medicine. I also like animals a lot. Unfortunately I don’t have a pet of my own at the moment. A few years ago I had a hamster named Tea. For many years I have dreamed of going to the USA as an exchange student, my mother has been there and I am interested in what life is like in the USA. I’m looking forward to a year of exchange to improve my language skills and get to know a new culture and life. I’m also looking forward to the exchange year to do normal American things. Like going to Target or Walmart and drive-through lanes at different restaurants and trying new tastes. I have also always wanted to experience American Halloween because in Finland it is not a big celebration, sometimes even people forget that it is Halloween. And also to experience Thanksgiving because it’s not celebrated in Finland either.

My peanut allergy has virtually no effect on my daily life other than not eating foods or treats containing peanuts. I am living totally normal life even though a have the allergy

I always read the product label to know if the product is suitable for me
and if there is no label or I cannot be sure if the product contains peanuts, I do not eat it because peanuts are not suitable in any form, not as a nut, not as an oil, peanuts must be avoided due to anaphylaxis, other nuts should also be avoided, but for example nutella and Kinder’ chocolate I can eat even if it contains hazelnuts.

I like a lot of Italian food like pasta, pesto I can eat if made with pine nuts, cashew nut is not suitable for me. I always have an epipen with me, if I get symptoms it is injected through my clothes into my thigh muscle after which I go to the health centre or hospital, however in all my 16 years of life I have only once been hospitalised for a nut due to an anaphylactic reaction, when the bad allergy was also diagnosed.

I hope to meet you soon!

Ida
