LETTER FROM Jooeun

Jooeun

Hello, I’m Jooeun.

My family members are my mom and dad, my older sister, and my younger brother. I like to be active, so I play with my younger brother and I enjoy exercising with him together. I also enjoy shopping with my sister because I like makeup. I usually recommend her cosmetics and clothes to my sister, even though I’m the younger one. I’ve been wearing makeup for a longer time and have better skills, so I give her advice and choose matching clothes. While I was sharing these routines with my sister, I became more and more interested in makeup and fashion, so I considered it as my future major.

My parents treat me like a friend and always make me feel comfortable, but these days, I am in high school, so I talk and discuss my future career more often. I get advice on my studies and high school in general. I talk to my friends about issues and help them to solve them. I don’t think I am good at academics, but I help guide my friends in other areas and encourage them to study. Sometimes they tell me I’m nagging, but I don’t think they dislike it because it shows me how much they care about me.

I have a positive personality and always smile well. I don’t consider myself very diligent, but I tend to nag my parents a lot, and I am trying to develop a diligent lifestyle as well.

I tend to sleep late in the evening and have too much sleep, which makes it difficult to wake up in the morning. However, I wake up well to my mother’s sound when she wakes up. I also like to take a nap, so I often take a short sleep after school, but since I have private tutor sessions these days, I don’t get to take a nap often because I want to utilize that time better.

I like to hang out with my friends, as anyone my age would. I usually like to go out for a walk with my friends or see the night sea and scenery. I enjoy the cool night air and often feel like going out. Sometimes when I look up at the night sky, I can see small twinkling stars. I don’t often look up at the sky, so I don’t think about it, but when I do, I find it very relaxing.

I like to cook and I usually make cookies and cook fried rice at home. My sister also likes fried rice and grilled mala enoki mushrooms that I made. I feel really good when my sister or mother likes my cooking. I want to cook more for them.

When I have time, I often play the piano. I usually like to play the CCM, so I play it often. When I play the CCM, I feel comfortable that I have a companion, and I think I feel proud and happy that I had a prayer meeting alone even if I don’t go to church. If I practice more and get good skills, I want to volunteer at the church praise team.

I spend a lot of time at church on weekends. I am a part of the student council, childcare, and broadcast department ministry in the church, and I think I am developing a lot of social skills in relationships with people I meet while volunteering at church. Also, there are quite a lot of things to learn, so I always feel that new knowledge and thoughts are changing and growing a lot.

For me, my time at church is a big part of the joy I feel. My friends in the church are so nice, and fun, and I am so happy to worship. I can’t concentrate on the youth service because of my responsibilities in the broadcasting ministry, so I often attend a different service because I really want to worship on Sunday. The youth services are different, so I always enjoy the service with a new feeling.

When I go to the U.S. as an exchange student, I want to learn about the various cultures of the U.S. I hope I can experience many foods, cultures, lifestyles, and famous places that are not available in Korea

I also want to let my friends in the U.S. or other countries know the good things about Korean culture. I want to show Korean food or cook for them and let them know many things to be proud of in Korea. I am nervous about interacting with my friends from other countries, but I also look forward to it. I want to meet as many friends as possible, get close to them, and keep in touch with them even when I return to Korea.

As an exchange student, I want to feel the joy of becoming a student who strives beyond my limits and achieves it. Through this opportunity, I hope to return to Korea with a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge, and a more mature version of myself.

Hope to see you soon!
