LETTER FROM Julie

Julie

Dear future host family,

My name is Julie I’m seventeen years old. Firstly I sincerely thank you for taking time to read this letter and for kindly taking an interest in learning more about me. I am deeply grateful for the time and attention you are dedicating to it. In the first place I’m feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity to join a host family like yours and spend almost 1 year in the United States! I’m so excited and I look forward to discover your country, your culture, learning from you and build unforgettable memories together. But above all let me introduce myself and explain why I choose to live this experience!

I was born in southwest of France and I live here since ever. I live with my two parents and my little sister. My mother works in a bank and my father has his own company in the shipping. I have a great relationship with my family, we are a close-knit family and we are always able to count on each other. I love my parents, they gave me a great education and now that I have grew up and realize a lot of things about my childhood, I’m feel so grateful for all the values, kind of education, lifestyle that they have instilled in me. My mother is my everything since I was little. I have always felt close to her. She is the one who gives me the strength to move forward, encourages to believe in myself to reach my wildest dreams.

With her encouragements, this strength and work ethic that she has shared and instilled in me, I have the feeling that nothing is impossible if we give ourselves the means. Then, my father helps me also a lot all the days, what I admire about him is his confident that he has in the things and in myself. He helps me to move forward, grow and once again believe in myself. The personalities of my parents are quite opposite, but the blend of both creates a perfect balance (which suits me most of the time J) and a pleasant living environment for my sister and me. My sister is two years younger than me, which means we are relatively close. I have an excellent relationship with her, even though the atmosphere is sometimes tense at the moment, likely due to adolescence. We still share wonderful moments together. I admire her a lot for his independence, confident and maturity that se has at her age. She has a quick wit and she is also very straightforward which are very funny sometimes. To conclude about my family life the thing that I prefer with them it’s our relationship and our many trips. My parents have always taken us in travel with my sister, and we are very grateful about that, they have ingrained in me a love for travel.

If I had to describe myself, I would describe as a determined, sympatic and empatic person. I live to reach out to people so I look forward to meet news peoples! I like getting to know people and learning about their activities. I’m not homely, I love to discover new places, travel, waking up early do activities and move all the time. I’m a positive person and I try to always looking for the bright side in every situation. Moreover, I have all the time some news projects and goals and I do all the time my best to achieve them. Later, I dream to become a doctor. I had already did some internships in a medical clinic in surgery in cardiovascular (I could touch a real heart !!!), in orthopedic with a spinal surgeon and in opthalmic surgery.

One challenge I faced was during my internships in surgery. Although the opportunity to attend surgeries at such a young age was an incredible chance, I quickly realized that the stressful environment of the operating room put unexpected pressure on me. The stress sometimes caused me to faint, and the fear of not being able to control myself during those moments was a real challenge to overcome. However, this situation taught me how to manage my stress better. I took the time to breathe deeply before each procedure, mentally prepared myself, and focused on the team’s work rather than my emotions. Over time and with practice, I managed to adapt to this demanding environment and control my reactions, which allowed me to fully benefit from this experience. This challenge not only helped me grow but also strengthened my determination to pursue a career in surgery, proving that even in stressful situations, I can stay calm and focused. My main weakness is that I fear the judgment of others. I care about what others might think…

As well, I believe I am an excellent candidate for this program because I am a curious and open-minded person, always happy to learn more about the world, people, and any subject that interests me. I enjoy exploring new areas, learning new things, and discovering different cultures. Besides, I am in a european spanish classroom which helps me to learn my two favorite languages: english and spanish. Last summer I went 3 weeks in immersion in an american family in the State of New York. That great experience gave me the taste to come back in the US but on a longer period. I am not afraid to leave or step out of my comfort zone. On the contrary, I enjoy challenging myself, going beyond my usual habits, and living new experiences; it is when I feel the happiest. It will not only give me the opportunity to have a unique experience, but also help me mature, become more independent, develop a sense of responsibility, while adapting to a new environment and facing new challenges.

My favorite hobbies are sport especially swimming and running. I love music, listen to it all the time. I sing and play piano. It allows me to relax and think about something else, just like sports, which I truly consider essential in my life and daily routine. I also enjoy everything related to video, such as editing, making vlogs and taking beautiful photos. It’s really a field that I love. Moreover I’m very gourmet, and I prefer sweets so I love cakes, chocolate and cookies but the thing that I prefer is crepes and especially my grandmother’s crepes. I’m not very complicated for food I just hate raw tomatoes however I love tomato sauce. I love spending time with my friends, go to the cinema, or to the beach.

Every year, during the winter holidays, we have a tradition of going to a sunny destination to celebrate Christmas: it’s my favorite time of the year. I also have grandparents who live part time in Paris and part time on the island of Menorca, in Spain. It’s a place I visit every summer with my sister, and it’s truly amazing. My other grandmother (mother side) lives in a small town of the Atlantic coast. My parents are surfing there and with my sister we like to do paddleboard on the lake. I feel really well in this place in the middle of the pin forest, close to the beach and full of cycle paths.

I am impatient to meet you and want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to live with you. I am convinced that this experience will be enriching, both personally and academically. I look forward to sharing moments with you, discovering your way of life, and learning new things together.

Thank you!
