Dear Host Family,
I’m very grateful for this opportunity and for the warm welcome you are giving me. Thank you so much for hosting me, I’m really excited to meet you and live this experience together!
My family is made up of me, my parents, my cat Pepi, my siblings, and my nephews. I am also very close to my uncles and aunts and my cousins. With my mom, we love going out and talking, she is one of my best friends, so I really enjoy being with her. With my dad, we watch movies, go to restaurants, and sometimes go to the soccer stadium. Even though I don’t live with my siblings, I really enjoy spending time with them. When we are together, we love spending quality time, going to beautiful places, playing games, and talking. With my cousin Rafaela, we are very close, and we love going to the movies, it has been our tradition since we were little. I also love spending time with my nephews: we play, watch movies, go out, and I especially enjoy creating dances with Bella, my oldest niece. My family also has a strong tradition of weekend barbecues, which is very common in the south of Brazil and is always a fun way to spend time together.
About my personality, I’m very outgoing and sociable. I love being around the people I care about. I’m also ambitious, kind, open-minded, and polite. One of my weaknesses is that I can be a little shy at first. Even though I’m extroverted, sometimes I feel shy, but it doesn’t take long for me to feel comfortable. This is something I hope to improve during my exchange year in the United States.
I really enjoy holidays, but my favorite one is Christmas. Every year I celebrate with my mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We have a big dinner, and my favorite tradition is Secret Santa, it’s always full of fun and laughter.
My favorite hobbies are cooking (especially sweets and desserts) and roller skating. I even competed until I was 13, and I really miss it. In my free time, I also enjoy going to the mall, the movies, and discovering new places. Although I don’t play soccer, I really enjoy watching it, both on TV and at the stadium. I also love movies, my favorite is Mamma Mia! Recently, I started reading more, and right now I’m really enjoying the first book of The Summer I Turned Pretty series. My favorite foods are pizza, Diet Coke, and white chocolate, but I also like pasta and broccoli.
During this exchange year, I hope to make new friends, experience American culture, and improve my English. This will help me in the future, because I plan to study Business Administration, which I am really interested in. This year, I even participated in the Junior Achievement mini-company program, where I worked as the financial director.
This is just a little about me! I’m really excited for this new chapter in my life and to get to know you. Thank you again for being part of my dream and for your time.
With care,
Mariah
