LETTER FROM Mariana

Mariana

Hello, host family! I don’t know you yet, but I’m already so excited to be close to you. I live in a very loving and welcoming home with my mom, dad, and my little dog. We all love each other very much. My dog sleeps in my bed—she loves cuddles but barks a lot! My dad jokes that he can’t wait for me to be away “and finally have some peace,” but I know he’s going to miss me like crazy. My mom doesn’t hide how much she’ll miss me either. She doesn’t even know you yet, but she already wants to know your address, city, and state! She’s a super protective mom. My family isn’t very big, but I couldn’t ask for a better one.

As for what I do in my city… I love training in sports—I practice jiu-jitsu, soccer, and chess. But the true passion of my life is scouting. I’ve been part of the movement for over six years, and through it I’ve made many lifelong friends. My dad is a scout leader, and both my mom and dad were part of the scouting movement themselves. They were the ones who encouraged me to join, and I’m deeply grateful to them for that. I also LOVE watching soccer and American football games. My dad got me into it one day, and I instantly fell in love with both sports.

I have many friends here, and my best friends are Isabella, Luiza, Luísa, and Clara. They always support me and show me so much affection—I’m truly grateful for the friendship we share. Friendship is something I value deeply. I care a lot about all my friends, and I know I’ll miss them very much. But I also believe I’ll make many new friends who will last a lifetime.

I’ve always loved learning new things, and some subjects have always sparked my interest. I have a special fondness for History because I enjoy discovering different cultures, understanding how the world has evolved, and how past events influence the present. I also really enjoy Arts, as it allows me to express my creativity and explore different forms of communication. In addition, I’m curious about languages—I find it fascinating how each one carries a piece of a people’s identity. Learning about these subjects makes me feel more connected to the world and to the people around me.

And to end on a high note, I just want to say how grateful I am that you’ve accepted me—I truly hope we can have a wonderful time together. Changing the subject a little, I’m already making a list of delicious Brazilian sweets for you to try! I really hope you’re as excited to learn about my culture as I am to discover yours. That’s it—I’m really looking forward to meeting you, and thank you so much for everything you’ve already done.
