LETTER FROM Oto

Oto

Dear my Host Family,

Hi! Thank you for being my host family. I think I’m gonna be indebted to you all for a long time, so I wrote a letter about my feelings and my daily life. Please read till the end!

I’m Oto from Tochigi Japan. My nickname is Occhan. I think I have a curious and energetic personality, so I like to challenge new things.

I live in the countryside rich in nature with my family of five. My mom Hisano, dad Tsuyoshi, dogs Matthew and Mason, and me. Matthew was rescued from the animal hoarding, and Mason was a stray dog. We often go to various places with our dogs, like the seas, dog runs, amusement parks and so on. They’re my best friends.

My school is surrounded by nature, and we have a lot of events in one year. The events I enjoyed this year was “Mochitsuki” this means to make rice cake. It was a very good experience that even Japanese people rarely have a chance to do. After school I usually join the club activities. I’m in the band club and the badminton club. I play the drums, and love to play J-pop songs and also the songs of “One ok rock, Bruno Mars, and 1D.”

To improve my English, I speak English with Americans every week using foreign textbooks. Also, I watch American TV shows on YouTube. I like the “Carpool Karaoke” from the Late Late shows with James Corden.

I listen to music a lot. I often go to live performances and concerts. Now I’m really addicted to a beatbox songs. I can’t human beatbox but I like to listen to it. My favorite beatboxer crew is “SARUKANI” from Japan. Their music is so sick! You should listen to it. It’s good!

On my days off, I go fishing and kayaking with my dad. I like sports in general, but I’m horrible at ball games. I’m really bad at it. By the way my favorite food is cucumber! If it’s Japanese food I like “Gyudon and Takoyaki”. My local traditional food is “Shimotsukare” , which it tastes bad that it ranks first in the list of school lunches that everyone hates at school.

Finally I would like to talk about what I hope to gain from this program. Of course I want to acquire more English skills, and make use of it in the future, but adapting to the new environment will make me become more independent and become a self-confident person.

Thank you for reading it until the very end! I think this study abroad experience will change my life. It may cause some trouble, but I’m looking forward to meet you all!

Best,

Oto Fujikawa
