LETTER FROM Paula

Paula

Dear future host family!

My name is Paula. I am from Germany, and at the moment, I am 15 years old. I am very thankful that you read my letter and chose me as a possible host daughter. You are the one who will make it possible for me to spend a year in the USA. In the following text, I will tell you more about me so you get to know me a little bit.

First, I want to tell you about my life in Germany. I live with my mother, my father, and my older sister. I would say that I live in a big city but more on the countryside. We have many pets like dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and horses. My hobby is horse riding and I would love to keep doing that in America. I also do pottery with my grandma but not that often. In my free time, I enjoy going to the barn, take care of the pets, or meet my friends. I also give little kids riding lessons. Something interesting to you as well is that I love to cook and bake. You can look forward to delicious German food that I will cook for you! Maybe you ask yourself why I want to do an exchange year. A few years ago, I met the old host family of my dad in French Canada. It immediately felt like my family, although I didn’t understand them very well. After that, I knew I wanted to go on an exchange and be able to make memories and friends in another country just like my dad did. I would be very happy to be able to learn a lot about your culture from you and have an amazing time in the USA.

The next question you might ask yourselves, is why I chose America and not Canada. For me, it wasn’t that easy to find a solution because I have never been to America, so I had no comparison. But I realized that I wanted to have the high school spirit like I know it from all the American movies I love to watch. I also chose America because there are People from so many different cultures in one country. I always found the American way of life very interesting and I would love be able to experience it myself. Celebrating Thanksgiving and the American way to enjoy the holidays as well as watching football games are experiences I really look forward to.

I am so excited to get to know you and to meet more new people. Furthermore, I always dreamed of going to high school and making the experience like going to a football game. I definitely want to get better at speaking English, and that’s the best chance I could take. I am thankful for the chance to be a part of a new family. I hope to find a second home so that I can introduce my children one day, like my dad did. Now I would like to tell you more about my characteristics. I am very helpful and always there when somebody needs help or doesn’t feel well. Because of my horses, I became very responsible. When first meeting new people, I may be a little bit shy, but when we get to know each other, I get more confident and open. At school, I always try to help, and I do many volunteer tasks, like showing kids the school and explaining how everything is working. I am really excited to meet you and so thankful for being a part of your family and for having the chance to make many memories with you. See you, Paula!
