LETTER FROM Romana (Romanka)

Romana (Romanka)

Dear host family,

My name is Romanka. I am from a small village in western Slovakia. I live with my mom and dad, and I am their only child. I used to feel lonely at home, so my dad bought me a small dog. Her name is Lilly. We love to play together and go for walks. I enjoy spending time with my parents, whether we are playing board games or going on trips. They always make me laugh and feel safe. I feel very lucky to have such a loving family.

I am an extroverted, creative, active, and brave person. I love being around people and enjoy meeting new people. I like to stay active with sports and other fun activities. My strengths are that I am a team player and very curious. I enjoy working with others and learning new things. However, I have some weaknesses too. I can be impatient when things take too long, and I feel shy around new people, but after a while, when I get to know them, I become talkative and friendly.

I have many hobbies that I enjoy. I have been dancing competitively for ten years, and it brings me a lot of joy. In the summer, I love snorkeling in the sea to explore underwater life, and in the winter, I enjoy skiing. I am not afraid to try new activities, so I would be willing to try anything fun. I do not have a favorite food since I like many things, but I really enjoy any kind of pasta. My favorite holiday is Christmas; I love everything about it. One special family tradition is baking gingerbread cookies during Christmas time. Another tradition is that after our Christmas dinner, my aunt, uncle, cousin, my parents, and I go to my grandparents’ house to open our presents and spend time together. It is a wonderful time of the year.

I am excited about going on an exchange year to America not only to improve my English skills but also to make new friends and experience a new culture. I really want to celebrate Thanksgiving and go trick-or-treating for Halloween, as we do not have these traditions here. I hope to gain independence and confidence by living in a different country with a new family. Overall, I see this as a great opportunity for personal growth and fun. I am open to all types of host families and experiences and am ready to adapt and grow in any environment. This exchange year could be a life-changing experience and creating lasting memories.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you.
