LETTER FROM Tim

Tim

Dear host family,

Hi! My name is Tim. I am looking forward to meeting you. My hometown is Berlin in Germany. I live in an suburb, where I can easily go to the center of Berlin, but there also is nature and time to relax. I love the city life.

I‘m a 15 year old teenager (but I will turn 16 before I get there), who is taking the first step into the life as an exchange student. Currently I’m in 10th grade in High School. I am very excited about my high school year in the U.S. and to meet my future host family!

Let me introduce myself.

First of all, I will introduce my family. My family consists of 4 members. First there is my sweet little sister, who is 3 years old. Then there are my two warmhearted moms, who I love spending time with (for example going for a bike ride or watching TV series at the evening). And there is me, my friends describe as a very positive person who is always open for an adventure.

My mother is a master tiler. In fact, she is the only female master tiler in Berlin. Although she is pretty busy, she never loses her smile on her face and always finds some free time which we spend together. When she has a lot to do for work, I always try to help her by taking over some housework or I take care of my little sister. She is very kind, nice and has a large group of friends. What is more, she always meets new people, because of her job. Also, she is very good at cooking. Her cooking is great and delicious. And I love her pasta with tomato sauce.

My other mother is working as a demand manager at a pharmaceutical company. She usually works from home and that is very beneficial for all of us, because she can easily pick up my younger sister from the daycare and I often can eat a delicious meal after school time. Furthermore, she always offers to help me if I have any questions about my homework.

My younger sister is in Kindergarten and I love her very much. She is very energetic and often wants me to play Hide and Seek with her, even though she doesn’t exactly understand the rules. HaHa. Also, she is pretty funny and laughs a lot.

Secondly, most people who first see me tell me that I’m pretty outgoing. I love to meet new people and to make new friends. I mean, it is pretty advantageous to have many friends. For example, if you need help, also, there is always someone I can spend time with. In my circle of friends I’m often the most cheerful person and I really like to joke around and have fun. Furthermore, I’m very talkative and I like to try new things, like Volleyball or other activities. You can feel free to ask me anything you are interested in, maybe we can even have a video chat before my stay.
Moreover, I have a lot of hobbies. I play soccer at a soccer club and practice kickboxing at a martial arts school. Doing sports and being active are very important elements of my life. Next to that I am playing the piano, listen to music or like meeting friends outside. These hobbies are the most important thing in my life, next to my family, of course.

With my family I often travel during the school vacation. I like to enjoy time at the beach, but also, I am interested to taste new food or go for a ride with a sightseeing bus. My favorite country is Thailand, because of the culture and the beautiful nature.

Furthermore, I already had a short exchange to the U.S. (New York City), where I lived for two weeks with a host family. It was pretty fun and I had a good time there. Even though we live in Berlin I was overwhelmed by the many tourists and rush in NYC.

When I was young I had a dog as a pet. It was a golden retriever and I loved him very much. In my family there are many dogs, but I also like other animals like cats or hamsters. I think pets are very cute and a great family member. We are in close touch with my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins as most of them live close to Berlin. We often meet for a Barbecue at my grandparent’s house or go to the cinema together.

I am happy to have a big family and spend quality time with them. My uncle and grandparents are often joking around, and we like to watch the German soccer league together. We even have a family betting game where we bet each soccer game. At the end of the season the “loser” invites everyone to a meal.

I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to stay with you as a host family. I am looking forward to telling you more about our German culture and way of living. Maybe I can prepare some day a typical German breakfast or show you some of my favorite German songs.

Sincerely yours,
Tim
