LETTER FROM Woojoo

Woojoo

Dear Host Family,

Hello, my name is Wooju. My English name is John, and I am 14 years old. I was born in the state of South Carolina in the United States, and I am a U.S. citizen. I can be a bit shy, but I enjoy playing table tennis and board games. People around me say that I am smart, honest, and give fair evaluations without telling lies. My dream is to become a programmer. I became interested in coding through block coding at school, and I tried Python coding. Although I have only covered the basics so far, I find it enjoyable, so I continue to pursue it.

I applied for this program to speak English perfectly like an American and make friends from different countries. I recently traveled to an English-speaking country in August 2023, specifically to Turkey. While I was able to have some conversations in English there, it was limited to simple communication, and I couldn’t engage in complex discussions. Through this experience, I realized the importance of English.

I am concerned that my English may not be proficient enough for effective communication in America. Therefore, I am currently improving my English abilities through phone English lessons in preparation for an exchange student program. I am looking forward to experiencing American culture and making friends in the United States. I can’t wait to embrace a new environment and meet new friends.

I would like to engage in sports activities like table tennis with my host family, as well as play board games. I also enjoy activities such as camping and fishing. Additionally, I am eager to study hard in the United States and achieve good grades.

I want to share a part of Korean culture, which is the Korean script, Hangul. Hangul is our country’s unique writing system, and while learning Korean itself can be challenging, learning Hangul is very easy and straightforward.

My family consists of my dad, younger sister, and me, as my parents are divorced. We often go camping and fishing together for recreational activities. I don’t have a specific religion, but I would like to experience attending a church in the United States with you all.

I’d like to share my school activities with you. I served as the school president and vice president twice in elementary school and continued as the president in my first year of middle school. Currently a second-year student in middle school, and I am the head English in my class. I have a passion for sports and participate in table tennis and volleyball as part of the school’s sports activities. Additionally, I served as the president of the chess club. I enjoy a variety of activities and clubs, and I’m interested in trying out different things.

Thank you for reading my letter, I hope you stay healthy until the day we meet again

Best regards,

Woojoo
