LETTER FROM Yee Shun (Faith)

Yee Shun (Faith)

Dear Host Family,

My name is Faith. Thank you for reading my letter. I am a F.3 student in secondary school and currently living in Hong Kong. In my family, there are my parents, my elder brother and me. My brother is a student studying in the UK, and my mom works at a church as a clerk. My dad is a service manager in an IT company. We do lots of things together. For example, last August we went to Cheung Chau, which is an island in Hong Kong and a famous tourist attraction. We walked around there and tried many tasty local snacks.

I have different qualities. Sometimes I feel worried, thinking my friends might get upset even when everything seems okay. I can be trusted, honest and I don’t get angry easily. I also like to consider others and plan ahead. I think my strengths are making friends easily, not giving up easily, and dedicating a lot of time and energy to things that interest me. I’m good at thinking about different aspects, and I’m patient. However, sometimes I struggle with Maths, which makes me a bit lacking in confidence. It looks rather difficult, as I know I may be focusing too much on small details of the work.

I like playing basketball and Krav Maga, listening to Korean pop music, watching a TV show called “Kamen Rider,” watching Netflix, and studying stories in Chinese history. My favourite food is lamb rack. I also like eating steak, although I usually prefer it well-done. The festival I love the most is Christmas because the school holidays last longer, and I like the Christmas atmosphere. All people are happy and enjoy the festival. The most important part of Christmas for me is that it’s when Jesus was born. It is definitely worth celebrating. I enjoy spending holidays with my family.

I have two reasons for joining this exchange program. Firstly, I want to learn more about American culture. I am curious about how people live in different places. Moreover, I think being in a new environment will help me navigate through new experiences and make more friends, which would make me happy. Secondly, I hope to improve my English skills. I want to blend in well with my host family, so I plan to be open and clear about my thoughts, and take part in housework.

I am excited to prepare for coming to the US. Thank you very much for taking care of the arrangements for me.

Regards
Faith
